Three lessons Moneyball seems to be teaching us right now.

1. In the movie, the Moneyball approach is portrayed almost like magic, but in reality it’s no silver bullet. Incomplete data, countless variables, the human factor—any of these can make a data-driven approach fail. Just like today’s AI.

2. The job of the scout is still needed, and still exists.

3. And yet, the people who did nothing while the meteor was bearing down on them got left behind by the times and weeded out.
